AlphaBay, World’s Largest Darknet Site Shut Down

AlphaBay was an online Darknet Marketplace founded by alpha02, reputable member on most carding forums and experienced carders. He decided to launch his own marketplace on December 22, 2014, and allow sellers from around the world to sell goods to buyers worldwide.

AlphaBay was shut down 3 weeks ago after a law enforcement action as a part of Operation Bayonet against the AlphaBay and Hansa markets in the United States, Canada, and Thailand. At the time, the US Department of Justice reported about a quarter million offers and demands for illegal drugs and about 100,000 offers for weapons, counterfeit documents, goods and computer malfunctions.

On July 5, alleged AlphaBay founder, canadian Alexander Cazes, was arrested in Thailand. Cazes was found dead in his cell this week, according to Thai police he committed suicide.
